With the end of the $800 duty-free policy on May 2, importing products is now expected to become more expensive. So how can you reduce the impact on your business? Shewin is here to help with DDP (Delivered Duty Paid) shipping method to save money on your wholesale clothing orders and avoid unexpected fees.

How Tariffs Have Changed

There are two main parts to the changes.

First, from May 2, imports from Chinese Mainland and Hong Kong to the US for packages valued at $800 or less are no longer duty-free, the White House said in a statement. This has led to increased costs for many importers.

Second, overall tariff rates have been rising recently. It’s important to stay updated.

Will These Tariff Increases Affect the Clothing Industry?

According to AP News, about 97% of the clothes and shoes sold in the U.S. are imported, mostly from Asia. That means higher tariffs will make sneakers, jeans, and almost everything Americans wear more expensive.

How Can Shewin Help You?

Shewin offers DDP shipping method. With our DDP service, we handle customs and deliver directly to your door — a full door-to-door solution that saves you time and money.

In addition, there’s no price increase — our products will stay at the current price, with no added costs due to tariffs or taxes.

Why DDP Shipping Method to Help You Save Big?

DDP is a shipping method where the seller takes full responsibility for all costs until the goods reach the buyer. This includes duties, and customs clearance. With DDP, the buyer doesn’t have to worry about surprise fees or dealing with customs — everything is handled by the seller or supplier.

For clothing boutique owners, using DDP can be a smart way to avoid unexpected costs, especially with rising tariffs. It offers peace of mind, simplifies the import process, and helps you better manage your pricing and profit margins.

2.Temporary Suspension of Express Shipping

After April 23, we temporarily suspend the express shipping options (DHL, UPS, or FedEx) due to recent changes in U.S. tariff policies. We recommend that you stay informed about the latest customs and duty regulations to better plan your orders. We still offer DDP Shipping Method, and we cover all customs duties for this shipping method.

Starting May 28, we have resumed UPS, DHL, and FedEx express shipping. If you choose express shipping for faster delivery, please note that you will be responsible for prepaying duties.

• For orders of $160 or less, a flat prepaid duty of $12.36 will apply.
• If your order exceeds $160, duties will be prepaid and calculated based on the total value of your goods. Usually, the more you buy, the smaller the duty share in your total cost. The estimated duty per clothing item ranges from $0.2 to $2.5. For more information, please contact us.

Conclusion:
The U.S. ended the $800 duty-free threshold for imports from China, DDP is a great option to help lower the cost of your clothing orders. However, DDP shipping may have different delivery times compared to other methods, so it’s important to understand the timeline and plan your orders in advance.

At Shewin, we’re here to support our customers by offering high-quality, cost-effective products — and helping you grow your business.

DDP Shipping Method FAQ:

Q1: What’s the Difference Between DDP and DDU?

DDP (Delivered Duty Paid) means the seller takes full responsibility , including all risks, costs, and handling , until the buyer receives or takes over the goods. In contrast, DDU (Delivered Duty Unpaid) means  the buyer is responsible for paying any duties, taxes, and handling customs when the goods arrive. Simply put, DDP is all-inclusive, while DDU leaves import costs to the buyer.

Q2: Does the Shipping Cost for DDP Change Over Time?

DDP shipping rates may fluctuate due to factors like fuel prices, international shipping demand, customs policy changes, and peak season surcharges. If tariffs continue to increase, the cost of DDP shipping may also rise.

Q3: Can I Refuse a DDP Shipment After it Arrives?

Generally, DDP shipments cannot be refused once they arrive, since all duties and taxes have already been prepaid by the seller. Refusing the package may lead to additional return shipping costs and possible loss of your deposit. To avoid any issues, please make sure to confirm all order details before shipping.
